BNG in Practice

For our February 2026 EESBN event, we were pleased to welcome Nattergal as our guest speakers, a leading nature restoration company working at a landscape scale across the UK.

About Nattergal

Nattergal owns and manages three rewilding sites spanning over 1,000 hectares in Norfolk, Essex and Lincolnshire and is a leading supplier of Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) units, with a portfolio of over 2,400 units, including 1,700 already listed on the National Register. Their work supports major organisations such as Bellway, Lidl and Anglian Water, helping to enable sustainable development across the country.

In this session, Rachel Blount, Senior Ecologist at Nattergal, demystified the BNG market, exploring how BNG works in practice, what recent regulatory changes mean for developers and consultants, and the opportunities presented by landscape-scale habitat banks. The session concluded with a Q&A, giving attendees the chance to ask questions and gain practical insight into this evolving area.
