Sustainability In Construction And How To Action It
Morgan Sindall Construction
Jamie Young and Ella Shuttleworth from Morgan Sindall Construction delivered a fantastic presentation at our June event. They discussed the long-term value of committing to sustainable practices. As well as explaining how Morgan Sindall supports clients with funding options and technical expertise, emphasising the importance of embedding sustainability throughout the project lifecycle, from initial design to final delivery. They stressed that whatever a company’s motivation, whether commercial pressure, compliance, or genuine care for the planet, taking action is what matters.
The speakers highlighted the need to design out waste from the very start of a project, covering materials, logistics, and supply chain standardisation, which is no longer optional but demanded by the industry. They shared that sustainability is no longer just the “right” thing to do but a source of value and efficiency that increasingly influences how tenders are won. The presentation also recognised the evolving roles of contractors, clients, consultants, and the supply chain, stressing the shared responsibility across the construction sector in achieving sustainable outcomes. Waste avoidance was emphasised as a priority, focusing on preventing waste rather than simply recycling it.
