National Apprenticeship Week 2024
It’s National Apprenticeship Week (5-11 February) and we are thrilled to confirm we are looking to recruit our next Degree-Level Architectural Apprentice this September; could it be you?
Do you care about spaces and the way people interact with those spaces? Are you creative, committed, and hard-working, with a genuine passion for, and interest in, architecture?
Contrary to school career advice, applicants do not need A-levels in Maths and science. What is important is the ability to draw, problem-solve, and have a high interest in design, and therefore we consider A-Levels such as art, design, geography, sociology, and psychology as being hugely beneficial.
Our apprenticeship programme is a very rare and unique opportunity as it allows our apprentices to ‘learn and earn’. The immersion within the practice helps to broaden and develop our apprentice’s professional skillset, together with attending university in London for one day a week.
Offering this apprenticeship in partnership with LSBU means those who do not wish to go to university full-time or do not have the means to traditionally attend university, have the barriers removed.
Our vision is to harvest our own talent by going above and beyond the university’s curriculum and ensuring our employees are trained to the highest standards in-house, with support from our vastly experienced team.
The delivery of our apprenticeship programme, which we have been running since 2019, has proven highly successful, with our recent apprentice, Rob, having achieved a 1:1, and picking up the ‘Best Drawing Award (BA)’ at LSBU’s end-of-year show. He was also nominated for the RIBA Presidents Medal. Rob is now a full-time employee at Cannon Clarke Architects as an Architectural Assistant.
What Rob says:
“The team at Cannon Clarke Architects are all incredibly understanding, encouraging, and attentive, which has really helped build confidence in myself and my skills as I continue to develop. I enjoy having my skills regularly pushed by various tasks, as this drives me to learn new things and adapt to certain situations. Importantly, I get respect from the entire team, which I believe is something not enough young people have within employment.
The apprenticeship is the ultimate combination of education and practical experience. I see it as a unique opportunity to develop both creatively and professionally simultaneously; better preparing me for my future as an Architect.”
No previous architectural experience is required. We encourage applications from all backgrounds and all age groups from 17+.
Please send CV and portfolios to Charli Smith at mchambers@cannonclarke.co.uk no later than 22nd March 2024
